It Is Never Too Early To Prepare For Easter
By Dodie Piersielak
I do not want to seem like I am rushing the season, but for this year the Easter holiday is April 8. If you would be interested in ordering our Falcon Easter food basket brochure this year, please think about doing so in the near future. Last year, more than 2,500 brochures were printed out and mailed by PFA Communications Director Frank Winters for our members.
These brochures explain the tradition of the blessing and what should/could go into your baskets. As always, these brochures are free to order, and Druh Winters will even include your Nest’s number, Club address and contact Officers on the back of every brochure you order. The brochures are great for handing out at your local church or Nest. Call Druh Winters at 1-800-535-2071 or send him an e-mail and order some today.
Last year, the Sokol Polski published a list of churches in the areas of our Nests that offered the Easter food basket blessing. We would like to provide this service again, so please let us know if your church holds this service. We need to know the following information: The church’s location, the times at which the services will take place and a phone number. Please make sure all this information is complete and accurate.
Our Falcon Book Service, which is part of the Polish Cultural Committee, is doing very well. I love receiving your mail about books that you would like to see offered. Maryjo Gargano from Nest 519, Middletown, Conn., wrote to me about “In My Hands: Memories of a Holocaust Rescuer.” It is recommended for young adults ages 16 and older. Her son was given this book last fall as a school assignment, and the entire family (teenagers and all) thoroughly enjoyed reading it. Maryjo told me, “Having family members who preformed similar deeds in Poland during the war, it was educational and very gratifying to read about the Holocaust from this perspective.” This book is featured on the Marketplace section of the PFA Web site.
Finally, I have a new Web site for you to check out. Head over to OneStopPolish.com. Once there, go to the bottom of that page and click on the “Useful Polish Phrases” link. You will be given a list of Polish phrases, related expressions and more.
And remember, you can always reach me by e-mail.
