Nest 123 Celebrates St. Casimir's Day

By Rebecca Sienkiewicz, Nest 123 Treasurer
On March 11, Nest 123, Erie, Pa., held its annual St. Casimir’s Day Celebration. We met at the Nest 123 Falcon Hall at 9:30 a.m. and proceeded to march to Holy Trinity Church for Mass, which was celebrated by Msgr. McSweeney and Deacon Eisert for the memory of deceased Nest members.

Everyone in attendance then proceeded to march back to the Club to share a brunch that was provided by Langer’s Catering. Msgr. McSweeney recited the invocation and the Pledge of Allegiance, which was followed by a moment of silence led by our master of ceremonies, Druh Norm Wrobel. Afterwards, we were greeted with opening remarks from our Nest President, Druhna Rosemarie Varhola, followed by greetings from Lacey Neugebauer, who is our current Miss Polonaise. Druh Wrobel then introduced District IX National Director Druh Tony Pol and our keynote speaker, Nest 123 member and Erie School Board Member Druh Richard Szychowski. National Secretary/Treasurer Druh Timothy Kuzma was also in attendance and spoke to the audience.

Following all the speakers, Druh David Shuttle, Nest 123’s Financial Officer, presented Druh Todd Szoszorek with a plaque in memory of his father and our past President, Druh Robert Szoszorek, who passed away last year. We then honored those new members recently inducted into the PFA Legion of Honor. Receiving the Bronze Legion Cross were David Andrychowski and Carl Siembida. Elevated to the Silver Legion Cross were James Schwartz and Jackie Andrychowski.

In addition to these Legion awards, there were several Star of Merit awards presented. A Bronze Star was awarded to Anthony Mazzone. Silver Stars were awarded to Michelle Johnson, Scott Kaveney, Angela Matusiak, Daniel DeMartino and Frank Pollock. Gold Stars were awarded to Frances Matusiak and Roger Kaveney. We also had 25-, 50- and 75-year member pins presented.

Thanks to the group from Nest 610, Erie, Pa., who graciously joined our celebration. It was nice to see the huge attendance for this event. Along with all of the Officers and Directors, as well as myself, we would like to thank everyone for their participation and hope you enjoyed the day as much as we did. Congratulations to our honorees –– you all are the “cream of the crop,” and we applaud and appreciate all of your hard work and dedication!

Bowling Tournament, Easter Party Recaps

By Rebecca Sienkiewicz, Nest 123 Treasurer
On March 25, Nest 123, Erie, Pa., hosted a scratch bowling tournament featuring Pennsylvania bowlers from Jamestown, Pittsburgh and Erie. Thanks to Mark Hooks, who put the whole thing together, and to Becky Sienkiewicz and Rose Varhola, who provided a buffet for the bowlers. Nest 123’s very own Brian Andrychowski came in fourth place!

A big “thank you” to all the Committees put together by Chairman Dave Andrychowski to make our recent Casino Night event a great success! Thanks to DJ Johnny H for his time, calling all the boards and providing music for the evening. The kitchen this year provided a ticket for a choice of food, which was something that went over really well. Plans are already in the works for the next year! If you have any new ideas, please let us know.

On March 31, Nest 123 held its annual Children’s Easter Party. The Erie Gymnastic’s Show team started off the event with a presentation. Thanks to Rachel Mazzone, who is a member of the team, for having her group entertain us. After lunch, there was an Easter egg hunt featuring our resident Easter Bunny, aka Anastasia Mazzone, along with baskets of candy. Thanks to all who helped.
