Annual Festival Attracts Guests Across The Country
By Frank Winters, Communications Director
Nest 146, New Castle, Pa., along with several other organizations, helped put together the 17th annual Polish Day Festival, which was held October 25 at the Cascade Park Pavilion in New Castle. This event featured a variety of crafts and ethnic food (including homemade pierogi, golabki, haluski and kielbasa). Music was provided by two Grammy-nominated polka bands: Lenny Gomulka & Chicago Push and John Gora & Gorale.

According to Christine Bok, a festival spokesperson and daughter of Nest 146 members Joseph and Joanne Bok, nearly 1,000 people were in attendance at this year’s gathering, including many Falcons such as Festival Committee member Lori Banko. Bok added that this year’s event attracted people from Arizona, Florida and Canada. Proceeds from this year’s festival went to benefit the American-Polish Central Committee (APCC) scholarship fund for area students. Donations were also collected for a Polish orphanage in Jutrzenko.
Even with the conclusion of this year’s event, the APCC and nearby Holy Trinity Church are still accepting donations for the Jutrzenko orphanage. Monetary donations are being accepted, as well as school supplies, toiletries and clothing. Last year, Holy Trinity Church and the APCC sent 10 large packages of supplies to the children. (Bok told The New Castle News that more than 700 pounds of supplies were collected.)
If you would like additional information on how you could assist the Jutrzenko orphanage, you may call Bok at (724) 658-7990.
