Nest 208 Looks Back At The First Half Of This Year
By Frances Tracz, Nest 208 Correspondent
During the past six months, Nest 208, Derby, Conn., has taken part in a wide variety of activities. Here is a recap of these events.
Due to inclement weather, the yearly election of Officers was held in January. All of last year’s Nest Officers were re-elected, and a schedule of upcoming events was announced.
On Saturday, March 31, Nest 208 held its annual Communion Mass and Supper. The members attended the 4:30 p.m. Vigil Mass that was celebrated by Nest Chaplain Rev. Joseph Szpilski, C.M. The lectors were William and Christian Tracz. Serving as alter servers were William and Tori Kowarik and Lucas Stochmal. Also serving as ministers of the eucharist were John Kowarik, Maryann Stochmal and Frania Tracz. Gift-bearers were Helen Wlodek and Walter Madura. All are Nest 208 members. Attending our Mass and Supper was District V President Phil Zambrello and his wife Diane.
Nest 208 members attended the anniversary celebrations of Nest 307, Southington, Conn., and Nest 88, New Britain, Conn. Members have also helped Nest 307 with the making of pierogies for the annual Apple Harvest Festival.
Peter Lenart, Wendi Kowarik and Frania Tracz are members of the Exploratory By Law Committee, along with other members of District V.
Nest 208’s annual Membership Dinner was held on Thursday, June 21. The members enjoyed a delicious dinner that was prepared by members of the Paugassett Hook and Ladder Company #4. The choice of meal was prime rib or half of a chicken, mashed potatoes, vegetable, salad and dessert. After dinner, our newest member, Christian Tracz, was given the oath of membership.
Members of Nest 208, along with St. Michael’s Parish, formed a prayer shawl group that made shawls to be given to people who are homebound, in nursing homes and to our service people that are returning home wounded.
On June 25, members assembled at the Edward F. Adzima Funeral Home to pay respects to member Walter Jadach Sr. Because Druh Jadach was a Silver Legion member, also at the wake were those from the Legion of Honor Circle.
Members participated in the District V Convention, which was held on Friday, June 29, and Saturday, June 30. Nest 208 delegates included Peter Lenart, Helen Wlodek, Walter Madura, Maryann Stochmal, John Kowarik, Wendi Kowarik, Eva Turaj, Sophiann Oliwa and Frania Tracz. Peter Lenart was a District Officer who served on the Credentials Committee, and Maryann Stochmal and Helen Wlodek served on the Ballot Committee. On the Budget Committee was Wendi Kowarik. Peter Lenart was also a member of the Nominating Committee.
Nest 208 members that were elected to serve as District V Officers and/or Directors include the following: Frania Tracz (First Vice President), Wendi Kowarik (Auditor) and Peter Lenart (Nest Representative to the District V Board of Directors).
