The evening began with the introduction of dignitaries that included National Polish Falcons President Wallace Zielinski, National Polish Falcons Vice President Patricia Del Busse, District XIII National Board of Director and Nest 31 member Julia Serafin, District XIII President Bernard Wolny and District XIII Legion of Honor Chairperson Edmund Pett. The members and guests enjoyed a delicious meal of pork chops, roast beef, meatballs, potatoes and vegetables. For dessert, they enticed their palates and taste buds on homemade cake and vanilla ice cream.
The purpose of the event was to celebrate 115 years of active participation in the Polish Falcons of America organization, nationally and within District XIII. Numerous proclamations and tributes were on display for the audience to read and admire. Highlights of these important artifacts included a tribute from President George Bush, Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm and a tribute from Adam Cardinal Maida of Michigan.
To ensure the evening would be a night to remember, the following awards were presented to five Nest 31 members. Marcia Bartos received the Bronze Star of Merit, while Grace Ann Campbell and Louise Borkowski received the Gold Star of Merit Award. Nest 31 then ushered into the Legion of Honor Circle its newest member. With the help of Druh Zielinski and Druh Pett, the Bronze Legion of Honor was presented to Druh Gregory Biestek for his years of service and participation in every aspect of Nest 31. Finally, the epitome of awards was presented to another Nest 31 member. The Gold Legion of Honor Cross was presented to Stanley Trombka for his numerous contributions to Nest 31 over the past 40 years. Nest 31 would like to thank Druh Trombka for his work; he is truly a deserving recipient of this award.

Following the awards ceremony, the 85 members and guests in attendance were entertained with a video slide-show presentation. The presentation was a depiction of important Nest 31 events and members that contributed to Nest 31’s history over the last 115 years. Set to music and interspersed with numerous special effects, the video, which was more than 40 minutes in length, seemed like only a few minutes of Nest 31 folklore and memories.
I would like to thank William Bradley and Paul Kochan for their dedication, energy and effort to ensure such a wonderful and entertaining presentation. “Thank you” to Teena Bradley, who was Anniversary Banquet co-Chair, to Barb Wloch for the beautiful table decorations and to Catherine Smith for the simply luscious cakes that everyone enjoyed for dessert. Finally a “thank you” to all the Nest 31 members that attended, as well as the Falcon representatives from Nest 79, Southgate, Mich.; Nest 86, Hamtramck, Mich.; Nest 124, Saginaw, Mich.; Nest 959, Allen Park, Mich.; and those from the Friends of Polish Art organization.

Nest 31 Celebrates 115 Years At Anniversary Banquet
By Will Bradley, Nest 31 Instructor
Despite the nasty weather, members of Nest 31, Detroit, Mich., joined together on October 27 to “make a difference” at the Polish American Veterans Home in Sterling Heights, Mich.

Old, young and new members came to help spruce up the Veterans home, where some of the outside work does not get done too often. With the help of rakes, brooms and trash bags, weeds and rubbish were picked up and removed. A new tree was even planted by 12-year-old member Stasiu Biestek.
It was a pleasant surprise to see some of the members of the home looking outside and waving to us as we went about our work. These members don’t have the ability to get out and do this for themselves, so we know we made a difference again and are looking forward to our upcoming “Join Hands Day” event in the spring.

Nest 31 Holds Outing At Member Residence
By Will Bradley, Nest 31 Instructor
Members, friends and family attended a Nest 31, Detroit, Mich., picnic held on August 11 in Oxford, Mich. This was the first time it was held here, but hopefully it won’t be the last.
Besides the beautiful weather, everyone enjoyed the private lake that the Wloch home shares with their subdivision neighbors. Members enjoyed yard games like Bolo toss, corn toss and even a special Girls Drill performance by junior members Amber Bradley and Sara Doehring for those guests who were unable to attend this year’s National Zlot. Those who were a little more ambitious played basketball or tennis. Hot dogs, hamburgers, salads and other food were enjoyed well into the evening hours, along with the Falcon friendships.
In addition to a bonfire, some friendly games of pool were played to cap off the evening. We all would like to say “thank you” to Frank and Barb Wloch for all the
