Nest 36 Prepares For Bowling Tournament
By Patricia Del Busse, Nest 36 Director
Plans and preparations are moving right along for next year’s National Adult Bowling Tournament, which is being hosted by Nest 36, Southwestern Conn. We here are all looking forward to the bowlers converging on our Club, located at 108 Danielczuk Drive in Ansonia, Conn. (Information about next year’s Bowling Tournament can be found here.)

Food will be available at the Club for all three days of the Tournament. A Polish buffet complete with homemade pierogi and golabki, along with other Polish favorites, will be available Friday night. Prices, times and other menu items will be forthcoming.

The Tournament’s chairman is Druh Joe Choromanski, and the Tournament Secretary is Druhna Trish Del Busse. A trophy and certificate were presented to Thomas after a recent Nest 36 gym class by Nest Instructress Druhna Karyn Choromanski. Other Nest 36 members receiving certificates for their participation were Nicole Okula (4th place), Jessica Zajkowski (5th place) and Julia Mateusiak (6th place). Great job by all!

There were a total of 19 participants from Nest 36 this year, and we expect to have all of them back next year as well as several new members.

This was the first year the Polonia Youth Bowling Tournament was held. Children from the Polish Falcons, Polish National Alliance, Polish Roman Catholic Union of America and Polish Women’s Alliance bowled in each fraternal’s respective youth bowling outings, and final results were tabulated by PFA Second Vice President Robert Gorny.

Broadcasting Hall Of Fame Inducts Peter Danielczuk
By Melvin Mason, Connecticut Post Reporter
What do Phil Donahue and Nest 36, Southwestern Conn., member Peter Danielczuk have in common?

Peter Danielczuk.

Though the famous talk show host may not seem to have much in common with the president of the city’s Board of Alderman (in Ansonia, Conn.), Donahue and Ansonia’s “prince of polka” will soon share a broadcasting hallmark.

Danielczuk has received word that he will be inducted into the Broadcasters Hall of Fame in November during a ceremony in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, located outside Akron.

Danielczuk, 55, will join 15 others being inducted into the Broadcasters Hall of Fame, established in 1982 to memorialize the “golden age” of broadcasting and to promote its art. It was originally called the Radio Hall of Fame, but changed in 1990 to include television personalities.

This Hall of Fame already has honored a diverse group of broadcasters, including Donahue, former Cleveland Indians play-by-play man Herb Score, country music legend Kenny Rogers and nationally syndicated talk show host Tom Joyner.

Candidates for the hall must have at least 15 years of on-air experience or be at least 50 years old, and must have made “a significant contribution to the radio and television industry,” according to the organization’s Web site.

Danielczuk’s friend and fellow polka disc jockey, Jack Baciewski, nominated him for the honor. It was a surprise for Danielczuk, especially considering that he became a DJ out of a simple love of music.

“I never expected it,” he said. “My mouth just dropped. I said [to my wife Grazyna], ‘Honey, you won’t believe this.’”

Danielczuk began his radio career in 1969 as a student disc jockey at the University of Connecticut’s WHUS. After graduating from UConn in 1973, he continued working at WADS in Ansonia as the morning show host and later doing mid-morning and afternoon news. He also worked at WICC in Bridgeport, WCCO in Waterbury and WTNY in Southington.

Danielczuk still is on the airwaves today, with a polka show on Sunday mornings on WDJZ in Bridgeport, a pair of shows on Wednesday evenings on WNHU at the University of New Haven and as host of a “Polka Celebration” on Sundays and Wednesday at the Polka Jammer network.

When he’s not spinning the best in polka music, Danielczuk is president of the city’s Board of Alderman and a salesman at Fitzpatrick’s Chrysler and Jeep on East Main Street.

“I never thought something like this would happen,” said Danielczuk, who joked about whether he’ll wear a tuxedo to his big day.
Henry Dunn, vice president of the Broadcasters Hall of Fame, said Danielczuk is a worthy candidate.

Danielczuk’s resume “says it all for him,” Dunn said. “There’s not much more that I can add to it. I feel he’s worthy of being there.”
