Heather Fleszar And Steven Henshaw

Nest 430, Auburn, N.Y., member Heather Fleszar married Steven Henshaw on September 1 at the Crescent Beach Inn, located in Rochester, N.Y. A reception was then held at the Crescent Beach Inn with a honeymoon in Oahu, Hawaii, shortly afterward.
Heather graduated from Auburn High School and Nazareth College. She is employed as a special education teacher/consultant at the Center for Autism and Related Disorders in Fairport, N.Y. Her parents are Falcon members Gary and Sharon Fleszar, and her grandparents are Evelyn Sroka and Dolores Fleszar.
Matthew graduated from Gates-Chili High School and Ithaca College. He is employed as a senior program director for child care, youth sports and teens at the Southeast Family YMCA in Pittsford, N.Y. His parents are Don and Kathy Henshaw.
As a youth, Heather took part in a number of Falcon activities, including Nest 430 gym classes, National and District zlots, volleyball tournaments and Junior Bowling events, along with many other Nest-related events.
Heather and Steven currently reside in Irondequoit, N.Y.

Mary Rand Named Fraternalist "MVP"

The National Fraternal Congress of America (NFCA) is proud to recognize Mary Curtin Rand, a member of Nest 430, Auburn, N.Y., as a Fraternal MVP (Most Valuable Participant) for the week of February 19. Fraternal MVPs are “Fraternalists-in-Action” who volunteer their time and energy to strengthen their communities through participation in local Nest activities and other charitable endeavors.

As a child, Rand participated in District IX track and field meets, zlots and camp. Since the age of 24, Rand has been a Nest 430 Officer. She served in the positions of Recording Secretary, Director and President, a position she currently holds. In addition to being Nest President, Rand is also District IX’s President and has been for seven years. Before that, she was the District’s Financial Secretary, Recording Secretary and Vice President. Rand was also awarded the Gold Legion of Honor.
As an adult member, Rand has participated in numerous District bowling tournaments and National Polish dance competitions. Even though she is not a golfer, Rand attends District and National golf tournaments. She has also served on the committee for the National Adult Men’s Softball Tournament in addition to teaching youth members Polish folk dancing.
Rand is the chairperson for the Polish kitchen at the annual Nest 430 picnic, chairs Nest fish dinners, is the chairperson of the Nest’s decorating committee for anniversary celebrations, and chairs the Nest’s annual Christmas party and bazaar.
Rand is involved with the Nest’s fundraising efforts, Thanksgiving raffles, Easter raffles, chicken barbeques, and book donations to the local library. In addition, she has helped with the Nest building’s upkeep, including painting its office. Rand has attended a number of PFA District and National conventions, including chairing the Grievance Committee at its most recent National Convention in 2004.
Rand’s memberships outside of the PFA include the Auburn Memorial Hospital Service Organization. As a member, she was involved in fundraisers and a “Lights of Hope” stage show of hospitalemployees. She also hosted a cast party for the crew of the show.
Rand is also a member of the Swietonowski-Kopechak American Legion Auxiliary Unit and the St. Hyacinth Altar Rosary Society. She is also a Eucharistic Minister and a member of the St. Hyacinth Social Ministry. Rand was a committee member of the St. Hyacinth Thanksgiving “Home Alone” project and the chair of their Polish kitchen summer picnic. In addition to all of this, she is a volunteer at the Matthew House, a home for the terminally ill.
