They haven’t been Falcon members for that long if you measure time by years of service as compared to other Falcon members, but when they joined in 1983 they immediately made a mark in our Falcon organization. Nest 519, Middletown, Conn., recently awarded Druhna Kay Greco and her husband, Druh Mel Greco, the Bronze Legion of Honor at its annual awards brunch.
This husband and wife team has worked together for more than 25 years to better Nest 519 and District V, and they have been involved in a variety of committees, activities and fundraisers.
Individually, Druhna Greco was the first woman elected as Nest 519 President, a position she held for seven years and managed a membership growth of more than 500 members. On a District level, she attended hearings at the State Capitol for reconstruction of our local dam and was awarded a $70,000 grant. She dreamed of rebuilding the Nest 519 Mess Hall, now called Falcon Grove. She co-chaired the District V Convention and 45th Zlot and was nominated as the first woman to serve as Convention Chairwoman. She was elected Vice Chairwoman for the 51st District Convention in Southington, Conn., designed the District V logo and presented a design medallion of our Falcon seal. She was nominated as a 1995 Fraternalist of the Year and has also competed in a number of Zlot drills and dance competitions.
Druhna Greco attributes her success to her husband Mel, who is just as active in the Polish Falcons. Druh Greco was elected to the Nest 519 Board of Directors in 1986 and serves to this day as a Board of Directors Honoree. In 1987, he was appointed a District V Board of Directors representative for Nest 519 and was a representative through 1995. Druh Greco has chaired ground improvements and building updates, and he was the General Chairman of Falcon Grove renovations. He is the cook at our annual pig roasts and works to make our Nest a better place by planting trees, maintaining the parking lot, putting up fences and building horseshoe pits, among other duties. Last year, Druh Greco was honored by Nest 519 with a special Falcon award.
Together the Grecos have helped Nest 519 excel to the place where it is today, and we thank them for their hard work and dedication.
