Member Paves Way To World Football Title

By Frank Winters, Communications Director
Nest 556, Jerome, Pa., member David Livengood recently helped the United States National American Football Team win the 2007 American Football World Cup.

David Livengood.

Organized by the International Federation of American Football (IFAF), the U.S. team defeated South Korea 77-0 in the tournament’s first round on July 10, then went on to beat Germany 33-7. Shortly thereafter, Livengood and his teammates defeated Japan 23-20 in double overtime at Todoroki Stadium in Kawasaki, Japan.

This was the first time that the U.S. had participated in this event, and Livengood’s squad handed the Japanese team its first-ever defeat in World Championship competition. The previous two tournaments in 1999 and 2003 were also won by Japan.

The U.S. team was comprised of amateur football players that completed their senior year of college in 2006. Livengood, who attended Indiana University in Pennsylvania, was named to the 2006 First-team All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference. A three-year starter at offensive line, he was also a member of the National Honor Society and volunteered with the Special Olympics throughout his college career. Livengood is currently attending Westminster College, located in New Wilmington, Pa., where he is working toward a Masters of Education Degree. He is also an assistant coach for the school’s football team.

Nest 556 Organizes Annual Corn Roast

By Joe Elliott, National Marketing Director
I recently attended the annual corn roast of Nest 556, Jerome, Pa., on September 2. In addition to hosting an outstanding, well-organized event that included excellent food, refreshments and music, Nest 556 always uses its annual picnic as an opportunity to invite those in attendance to become Falcon benefit members. I was happy to be on hand with a membership table full of information.

This picnic also gave me the privilege of visiting with all of the members from the youngest to some that have been members for more than 60 years.

Thank you to the Officers for the invitation, hospitality and the support they provided me. I look forward to seeing everyone again soon.
