National First Vice President Remembers Druh Tadeusz Galaszewski
By Patricia Del Busse, PFA National Vice President
This year, the Annual Day of Prayer for the Polish Falcons of America, which is held at Our Lady of Czestochowa in Doylestown, Pa., was moved back to September 23. As usual, Nests 88 and 811 from New Britain, Conn., came with a bus full of pilgrims to observe this occasion. But this year, one very important individual was not with the group.

Nest 88 and District V have recently lost one of their most beloved members, Druh Tadeusz Galaszewski, who passed away on July 19. Druh Galaszewski held many positions within his Nest and District. Most recently, he was the District V representative to the Legion of Honor Commandery. Druh Galaszewski had his own special way of presenting Legion awards to the members of District V, which included informing the newly inducted members that they were now a “Prince” or “Princess” of the Polish Falcons. He was very much into protocol, presentation, respect, honor and dignity.
My memories are mostly of Druh Galaszewski at Doylestown. Each year, Nest 88 brings their flags and leads a procession into the church. Many of the Nest 88 members in attendance understand Polish, which I am grateful for because the priests at Mass speak and give instructions in Polish. Immediately following Mass, Falcon members march to the cemetery and pay their respects to Dr. T.A. Starzynski and Wasilewski at their graves. In recent years, Druh Galaszewski asked me to drive him to the cemetery because the walk was getting more and more difficult for him. Druh Galaszewski always called me Patricia. I would go get my van, pick him up and then drive over to the gravesite. We would then walk hand-in-hand to visit the graves of Starzynski and Wasilewski where Druh Galaszewski would kindly make a speech (in Polish) at each site. On our short drive, Druh Galaszewski would speak very highly of his wife, Zofia, and share stories of his family and his health.
It was very nice to have those brief visits with him, and I will certainly miss this unique man who brought so much to this organization and to everyone who came into contact with him.
May Druh Galaszewski forever rest in peace. He will be missed.

Nest 88 Celebrates 100 Years With Banquet, Mass
By Diane Mechlinski, For Nest 88
It is a monumental milestone for an organization to reach their centennial. Over the course of such a long period of time, many obstacles and events can hinder its growth and continuance. Generations of committed individuals are needed to work together in cooperation, decade after decade, so as to pass on the traditions and aspirations of those that instilled its beginning. Nest 88, New Britain, Conn., has accomplished this, and more, as it proudly commemorates its 100th anniversary during this year of 2007. [Full Story]

He’s been described as the most revered human being on earth. He’s been known to be the most tireless moral voice of a secular age, reminding humankind of the worth of individuals in the modern world. These descriptions are for none other than the late Pope John Paul II.
In 1969, before he became pontiff, Cardinal Karol Wojtyla, born in Wadowice, Poland, came to New Britain, led parishioners of the Polish community in the celebration of Mass and stayed at Sacred Heart Church. On Sunday, April 1, one day prior to the second anniversary of his death, Sacred Heart Church honored his extraordinary life with the unveiling, dedication and blessing of a statue in his likeness.
