Members Awarded During Anniversary Event

By Barbara Lusczek, Nest 97 Vice President
On July 22, Nest 97, Windber, Pa., celebrated its 100th anniversary with a Mass at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church followed by a banquet in the Church Hall. A total of 80 members and guests were in attendance.

Fifty-year member awards were given out by Nest 97 President Robert Lusczek and National President Wallace Zielinski. Six awards were also given to members for their service to the organization. A flag was also presented earlier to the Polish Falcons by Congressman John Murtha, which flew over the Washington, D.C., Capitol on June 26 in honor of our anniversary. Music entertainment was provided by the New K’s of Windber.

Member Donates More Than 150 Times To Starzynski Scholarship

By Patricia Del Busse, National First Vice President
Nest 97, Windber, Pa., member Genevieve Borovicka faithfully donates each and every month to the Dr. T.A. Starzynski Fund. Her donation for the month of March was number 152! This is her way of ensuring that others may benefit from the scholarship program.

Both of Druhna Borovicka’s grandchildren were recipients of the program. Her grandson, Ken Meier, received one in 1994 and her granddaughter, Kristine Meier, received one in 1999. The grants were a big help, and Druhna Borovicka told to her daughter that she would like to do what she can to be sure that as many kids as possible receive Starzynski grants. So far she has kept her word for the past 152 months.

Druhna Borovicka is very proud of her Polish heritage and taught it to her children and grandchildren. Her family still carries on the Polish traditions for Easter and Christmas, something that her grandchildren truly enjoy. The passing of the Polish culture is another reason for her generosity.
