"Emotionalist" Art Exhibit Opens At Culture Center
Washington, D.C. (PMN)—The American Center of Polish Culture opens an exhibit of works by artists of the “Emotionalist” school on Saturday, September 15, 2007, in the Amber Art Gallery.
The Emotionalist artists’ group was founded 12 years ago by Lubomir Tomaszewski, a sculptor and designer of international renown. The group is multidisciplinary and includes painting, sculpture, drawing, graphic art, tapestry and photography.
Emotionalism reflects an abundance of styles and techniques. Its practitioners generally joined the movement to express their emotions through art. “Emotionalism believes that new findings and technical novelties in art must serve the spiritual and mental aspects of a human being,” Tomaszewski has said. The Emotionalist approach “aims to broaden the artistic and human sensitivity of the artist and the viewer” and to be an expression of “emotions, sensations, observations and reflections.”
Most of the artists live in the northeastern United States. They vary in age, education and ethnicity. In addition to Tomaszewski, they include Julia Ambrose, Ivan Bratko, Maria Fuks, Kinga Kolouszek, Basha Maryanska, Ewa Maslowska, Zbigniew Nowosadzki, Alexandra Nowak, Mietko Rudek, Arthur Skowron and Janus Skowron.
The exhibit will run through January.
