VP Trish: 2023 National Golf

Yes, it is still January, but with everyone’s schedules, I want to be sure that you include the National Golf Tournament in your plans for this summer.

The 54th National Golf Tournament will be hosted by Nest 493, Batavia, N.Y. This is the third time they have hosted the National Golf; the last time was in 2011. The first time was in 1994 (which was my first National Golf Tournament), followed by 2002.

The courses that will be used are LeRoy Country Club and Batavia Country Club.

Golfers will participate in a Singles Tournament on Thursday, August 10, with a Doubles Scramble being played on Friday, August 11. The Hammer Open will take place on Wednesday, August 9. (This is a separate event but many of the golfers participate.)

The National Golf Commissioners (most of them) met in October of last year to review and discuss rules.

After consideration and discussion, the Commissioners approved these rules:

A Super Senior category for those over the age of 75 has been added. There are now 12 divisions.
No cash prizes (except for skill holes, depending on the host Nest).
Trophy, medals, plaques or a gift decided by the host Nest for the awards.
First, second and third place will be awarded in divisions with eight or more.
If fewer than eight, first and/or second place depending on the number of participants.
Entries open June 1 and close July 15. If one registers after the deadline, they will be accepted but will not receive the gift offered by the host Nest.
Thursday golf awards will be presented Thursday evening.
The entire list of scores will be posted (even if just the sheets from skins with those who did not participate in skins added for their information) on Thursday evening.
Friday golf awards will be presented Friday evening. Again, scores will be posted.
