Polish Falcons of America is sponsoring a Virtual 1-Mile Walk for Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October. We are asking for at least a $10 donation at registration. All registration donations will be sent to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, Inc. Get your group together, get out, and walk for a cause! Wear pink and support Breast Cancer Awareness. Remember: With HOPE all things are possible! We can help to find the cure. Click here for additional details and registration.
As I write this (Friday evening), I am thinking that next week at this time, the golf will be complete, all the prizes awarded, all the meals consumed! But we will still be enjoying the camaraderie of a Falcon event. Hopefully, we’ll be a bit sunburned!
Greg Wieser told me that Erie has been experiencing more rain than usual this summer. The forecast currently is calling for warm temperatures with scattered storms next week, although there is plenty of time for that to change.
Please consider bringing your umbrella and rain gear. Nothing keeps the clouds away more than being prepared!
An email was sent to all the golfers (there were a few of you who had friends/family emails listed) with the information that Greg has shared regarding the tournament. All of that information is in the blog from this past Wednesday. If you are golfing in the Hammer Open, your tee time was included. The Hammer is being played at Scenic Heights. Jeff Jalowiecki of Nest 307 is taking care of the Hammer!
We are asking each golfer to bring a backpack to donate to a local center. If you missed that blog, please click here. They will be helping a local community.
As always, if you have any questions, please contact me.
No rain dances please, we want perfect golf weather!
Safe travels, see you in a few!
The deadline for the PFA National Golf Tournament has been extended to Monday, July 19, 2021 at noon eastern. We now have 111 golfers! There is room for a few more! Register here!
If you haven’t received an email from me, please contact me. I have been emailing all (if you had someone else as your email, your name was included in the message) to let you know I received your registration and to ask for your typical scores. A waiver is also attached to the email that needs signed and returned to me before I see you in Erie.
Former Commissioner Mary Whalen has shared lots of golf information, including the scores from the last several tournaments. Since we haven’t had a tournament in two years, I thought possibly scores have changed. If you haven’t given me a handicap, I am asking for typical scores. Several of you haven’t been to a tournament in quite a while.
The Nest is supporting St. Martin’s Center. I am asking if each of the golfers would please bring a backpack to donate (empty is fine) so that we can give them to the less fortunate in need of a backpack. Thank you! Czolem!
Nest 97 Member, Genevieve Borovicka, just celebrated her 99th birthday! Happy Birthday and Sto Lat! One of the surprises for Gramma was a phone call from polka great, Jimmy Sturr.
The gentleman pictured here with Druhna is her grandson, Ken Meier. Ken received a Dr. T.A. Starzynski grant back in 1994 ($750). Ken was the first Nest 97 Member to receive a grant and his sister, Kristine, was the third Nest 97 Member receiving a grant in 1999 ($800). Ken now serves as Nest 97 Treasurer, a position his grandfather once held.
Gramma was so excited and grateful that she decided to do her part and donate on a regular basis to the Dr. T.A. Starzynski Scholarship Program, contributing to the program’s sustainability. Each month, Druhna sends in a $10 check (along with silly jokes she cuts from magazines) and has done so over 300 times! We look forward to her correspondence each month!
The Polish Falcons, our recipients and I are very appreciative of Druhna Genevieve’s kindness. Perhaps there are a few more Genevieves out there?
When I attend National events, especially youth ones, it is always so nice to recognize previous scholarship recipients in attendance. It warms my heart when recipients are still active within the Polish Falcons.
Reasons to insure your children:
- Scholarships are one of the many benefits of Membership
- Juvenile insurance guarantees insurability later in life (if Lord forbid, something happens and your child becomes uninsurable)
- The younger a person is when they obtain life insurance, the lower the cost
Keep safe! Czolem!
05/12/2020 Update: Contributions now being accepted through May 31, 2020.
Support your Nest!
#GivingTuesdayNow (May 5) is a global day of generosity and unity, a day to come together and give back in response to the unprecedented need caused by COVID-19, no matter who or where we are.
If able in this difficult time, PFA National Headquarters is asking Polish Falcons Members to make a contribution to support their Nests.
Our Nests have been closed for five weeks or longer. There is little or no income and bills still need to be paid. How much would you have spent at your Nest over the course of five weeks? Are you able to donate that amount or a portion of it?
Today through May 12, let us come together as Falcons for our Nests. This is your chance to show support for your Nest and make a donation to help the Nest get through these challenging times. No amount is too small. Thank you for giving.

04/08/2020 Update: Applications Now Available Here.
Several years ago the Polish Falcons of America created a Disaster Relief Program to assist Members who were affected by a natural disaster. Since that time, PFA has provided thousands of dollars in assistance to our Members. In light of the current situation as a result of the world-wide pandemic, the PFA National Board of Directors voted to approve a new program to provide assistance to those Members affected by the virus.
Applications for the program will be available on the PFA website starting on Wednesday, April 8, 2020. The program will be open until December 31, 2020, or until the funds available are exhausted. Because of the limited funds available, applications will be handled on a first come, first served basis. The amount of each grant is $250.
Below are the requirements for the program.
- An individual Member who has been infected with the coronavirus.
- An individual Member with an immediate family member who has been infected with the coronavirus. Immediate family member is defined as a spouse, children, parents or in-laws, or someone who is dependent on the care of the Member.
- An individual Member who has experienced a significant financial setback as a result of the coronavirus. These applications will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
- The applicant must be a Member of PFA in Good Standing (which means all National Dues must be current at the time of application).
- Grants are available to one per household.
If you have any questions about the program, please contact Physical Education Director Chris Puskar at email@example.com or by calling National Headquarters toll-free at 800-535-2071.
If you would like to make a donation to help support this program and increase the number of grants available to Members in need, please send check payable to Polish Falcons of America, Attn: Chris Puskar, 1016 Greentree Rd., Suite 201, Pittsburgh, PA 15220.
