This year, we are heading back east to visit Nest 493, Batavia, N.Y., for the 54th National Golf Tournament. The Tournament will be held on August 10 & 11.
My first National Golf Tournament was hosted by Nest 493 back in 1994. Since that time, Batavia has also hosted the National Golf in 2002 & 2011. The Nest is looking forward to our return.
Interesting numbers for participation:
• 1994-248 golfers
• 2002-234 golfers
• 2011-142 golfers
Recently, the tournament has had around 100 golfers. How about if we up that number just a bit?
The entry fee is $175 per golfer which includes:
• Two rounds of golf with a cart
• Two lunches
• Two dinners
• Prizes
• Shirt
Cost for extra dinners is $20 per person, per dinner.
The Nest 493 hall is located at 123 S. Swan Street, Batavia, NY for Wednesday evening activities.
Thursday and Friday evenings fun (and dinners) will be held at Ascension Parish, 15 Summer Street, Batavia, NY. Use the same parking lot for the church hall as the Nest hall.
On Thursday, the golfers will tee off at 9 a.m. with a shotgun start at LeRoy Country Club located at 7759 East Main Road, LeRoy, NY 14482 (leroycc.com).
Friday, again with a 9 a.m. shotgun start, the golfers will begin with at Batavia Country Club, 7909 Batavia Byron Rd, Batavia, NY 14020-9716 (bataviacc.com).
The Hammer will be played at Batavia Country Club on Wednesday, August 9, with Jeff Jalowiecki (Nest 307) at the helm.
Registration will open on June 1 and close on July 15. Please be sure to sign your waiver when filling out your tournament application.
When filling out your form, I need your age, gender, desired partner for doubles and your foursome (if you have one). Also your handicap; if you prefer to use your Falcon one, that is fine. If using your Ghin, please provide proof. A maximum of 40 strokes will be given (well, deducted) for handicaps. (Obviously, other information including your name, Nest, etc.)
If this is your first Falcon tournament and you don’t have a handicap, I need you to honestly tell me your typical score for 18 holes.
At the Golf Commissioners Meeting held after the event last year, it was decided to add another division.
There are now 12 divisions divided by Men and Women. Within these two divisions are six each!
• Adult golfer ages 18-59
• Senior golfer ages 60-74
• Super Senior ages 75+
Within each division, there is a scratch category as well as handicap category.
Housing:
• Please call between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. to book your room, regardless of which hotel you choose
• Rate is $130 per night plus tax at all three hotels
• Deadline to reserve is July 15
• All hotels are located very close to one another
